West Brant Daycare

Safety First Policy

While in our care, your children's safety is our first priority. You may be wondering how we can offer so many great trips and outings while maintaining a safe environment for your children. Our safety first policy means that you don't have to worry about your children when they are in our care, even while out in the community.

  • 4-1 Rule: We do not go on any field trips that would have a high risk to safety (such as swimming) without a minimum ratio of 4 children to 1 adult. We are able to accomplish this through 2 adult supervision as 2 weeks out of the month (while he's on night shift) my husband and I run the daycare together, allowing us the ability to bring the children on field trips to lots of fun and exciting places while maintaining a safety ratio of 4-1. Your children will always be closely monitored in and outside my home, usually with 2 adults supervising their care.
  •
  • Up-to-date safety training: I keep current CPR level C and First Aid credentials that are available to our parents anytime for viewing.
  •
  • Safe driving: We drive in regularly maintained vehicles with properly installed, non-expired and age appropriate carseats for all children. We obey all traffic and carseat laws, and always follow posted speed limits while your children are in our vehicles. We both hold valid driver's licenses in good standing, and are happy to provide you with driver's license and insurance information.
  •
  • Safe sleeping: Children are slept comfortably in beds, a crib, or a bassinet at nap time to ensure comfort and safety while sleeping. I am always closeby to attend to the children if needed.
  •
  • Life Jacket Policy: In order to ensure safety of all children during summer swimming outings, we ask that every parent have a life jacket for their child, as they are required to be in life jackets anytime we are at a beach and/or pool for their own safety. If you wish for your child to swim without a life jacket, we require the child to be over the age of 5 years, and provide proof of swimming instruction or over the age of 8 years with a waiver from the parent stating that their child is a strong swimmer and does not require use of a floatation device for swimming. The life jacket also applies to children who are not planning to swim as they will be near the beach/pool area to reduce risk of accidental drowning.
  •
  • Emergency contact policy: Anytime we leave the house with your children, we ensure we have a sheet with all emergency contact, allergy and health card information. It is the responsibility of the parents to ask for a new form if there are changes or ammendments to the information contained.
  •
  • Outside toy/food policy: Children are not permitted to bring toys or food from home (with the exception of a "lovie", "blankie" or security item for naps). This is to ensure that we can maintain the cleanliness of all items your child may come into contact with during daycare, as well as to protect other children from food allergies that may be present in snacks you would pack for them. We serve a balanced, nutritional menu, and your children will be well-fed while in care. There is no need to send snacks of any kind.
  •
  • Smoke-free policy: This is and always will be a smoke-free daycare. Please take care if you are in a smoking home to keep any and all items that may end up in daycare (clothing, jackets, blankets) away from the possibility of smoke contamination to protect the other children in care from coming into contact with these harmful substances.
